Department of Statistics (Minor Programme)
The Department of Statistics plays a vital role in developing analytical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and data interpretation skills among students. As part of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), Statistics is offered as a minor subject, providing students from diverse disciplines with an opportunity to acquire foundational knowledge in statistical methods and their real-world applications. The minor programme in Statistics is designed to introduce students to essential concepts such as data collection, classification, presentation, and analysis. It covers key areas including descriptive statistics, probability theory, statistical inference, and basic statistical modelling. Through this course, students develop the ability to interpret data, draw meaningful conclusions, and make informed decisions based on statistical evidence. Overall, the Department of Statistics, through its minor programme, equips students with essential analytical and problem-solving skills that are highly relevant in today’s data-driven world. By integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications, the programme enhances students’ ability to handle real-life data and supports their academic and professional growth
