Department of Psychology
Department of Psychology, K.M.O, college started Undergraduate Programme in BSc Psychology in 2022 with Human Physiology and Psychological Statistics as the complementary courses. A variety of learner -centered teaching and learning pedagogies are practiced in the form of seminars, experiential methodologies, laboratory trainings, conferences workshops, field-based studies and interactions with subject experts. The Department has well equipped laboratory for experimental psychology and psychological assessments. The curriculum is integrated with field work in hospitals, industries and clinics keeping in view of students’ placement after the successful completion of the course. The Department also offers minor courses and multidisciplinary courses to BSW (FYUGP ) and other Programmes. The Department has a Student Counselling Centre under the guidance and coordination of the Head of the Department which provide services like individual counselling and help the students in their day-to-day concerns and also enhance their overall functioning The Department of Psychology is committed to the academic excellence, mental well-being, and holistic development of students and the wider college community. The department aims to promote scientific understanding of human behaviour while nurturing empathy, ethical responsibility, and social awareness. Through teaching, research, and community-oriented activities, the department equips students with psychological knowledge and practical skills that can be applied in educational, clinical, organisational, and social contexts. Special emphasis is given to mental health awareness, emotional well-being, and preventive approaches to psychological distress. The department actively encourages student participation in outreach programs, awareness campaigns, and peer-support initiatives, fostering a culture of care, inclusivity, and responsibility within the campus.

Listening Club
The Listening Club is a student-centred mental health support initiative functioning under the guidance and supervision of the Head of the Department, Psychology. The club is established with the primary aim of promoting emotional well-being, suicide prevention, and peer support within the college community.
Vision : To create a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment where students and staff feel heard, valued, and emotionally supported.
Objectives :
- To act as a gatekeeper for mental health and suicide prevention.
- To provide a safe listening space for students experiencing emotional distress.
- To promote psychological well-being and resilience among students and teachers.
- To encourage help-seeking behaviour and reduce stigma related to mental health.
- To support early identification of students in need and facilitate appropriate referrals when necessary.
Role and Functioning : The Listening Club functions as a supportive, non-judgmental listening platform, where trained student volunteers serve as listeners rather than counselors. The club does not replace professional mental health services but acts as a first point of emotional support, helping individuals feel understood and guided towards further help if required. All activities of the Listening Club are conducted under the academic and ethical supervision of the Head of the Department of Psychology, ensuring confidentiality, responsibility, and adherence to psychological best practices. The Listening Club and Counselling Cell together strive to foster a mentally healthy campus culture, where care, empathy, and psychological safety are shared responsibilities. The initiative reflects the department’s commitment to social responsibility, preventive mental health care, and student welfare.
Counselling Cell
The Counselling Cell of the Department of Psychology functions under the guidance and supervision of the Head of the Department is supported by a qualified Counsellor who provides professionals, confidential psychological support to promote mental wellbeing on campus. The Cell is established to promote the mental health and emotional wellbeing of students, faculty, and staff of the institution. It serves as a supportive, confidential, and non-judgmental space where individuals can express their concerns and receive psychological guidance.
