Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry was established in 2021 offers under graduation program in chemistry with physics and mathematics as the complementary subjects. The Department offers a vibrant atmosphere that nurtures the spirit of scientific inquiry in a highly encouraging environment. Committed to excellence in Chemistry, it offers a four-year undergraduate degree program, including the B.Sc.Chemistry Honours (FYUG) course started in 2024, along with minor courses and multi-disciplinary courses to provide a well-rounded academic experience. The Department has also been actively involved in extension activities that address the needs of the surrounding community, fostering both academic growth and social responsibility.

Vision

To be a recognised model in Chemistry education, empowering students to excel and contribute effectively in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.

Mission

To foster a comprehensive and progressive understanding of Chemistry by providing students with high-quality classroom instruction, research opportunities, hands-on projects, and avenues for community and scientific service.

Objectives

  • To develop practical skills for performing experiments and analyzing data effectively.
  • To offer programs that meet the academic and technical needs of various Chemistry sub-disciplines.
  • To promote ethical values and responsible scientific conduct.
  • To enhance critical thinking and the ability to solve complex problems.
  • To apply core chemical principles in interpreting and explaining experimental results.

Classroom and Related Teaching-Learning Facilities

The Department is equipped with well-furnished classrooms that provide a comfortable and conducive environment for learning. In addition, the outdoor learning spaces are technology-enabled with campus-wide Wi-Fi, allowing students to access online resources and study materials beyond the classroom. The Department also features multipurpose learning areas designed for small group activities, interactive discussions, and additional support for both slow and advanced learners, promoting a student-centric approach. Furthermore, students have access to seminar halls, smart rooms, and sports facilities, ensuring a holistic learning experience that combines academic, technological, and recreational resources. The UG Laboratory has all the facilities for providing experiential learning prescribed by the B.Sc. Chemistry curriculum.
